The Biden administration’s neglect of the southern border has long worried national security experts, but a recent report has unveiled a particularly alarming development. An unprecedented surge of Chinese nationals illegally crossing into the U.S. has raised significant concerns, unveiling a massive national security issue.
Recent reports have revealed a startling increase in the number of Chinese nationals crossing the southern border. In the first two days of May alone, over 485 Chinese nationals were apprehended in the San Diego sector, surpassing the total number of Chinese immigrants encountered during all of fiscal year 2021.
Fox News reporter Bill Melugin highlighted this alarming trend, noting that the “overwhelming majority of the Chinese are mass released as China is not cooperative with deportation flights from the U.S.”. This creates a significant challenge for U.S. authorities, as deportation becomes nearly impossible without cooperation from the immigrants’ home country.
The influx of Chinese nationals attempting to cross the U.S. southern border has escalated, with over 24,200 apprehensions recorded in the first six months of fiscal year 2024, representing a 7,000% spike since 2021. This surge has been facilitated, in part, by social media platforms that provide tips for the journey to the U.S. The trend has raised concerns about potential national security risks, particularly since many of the migrants are military-aged males.
Gordon Chang, an expert on China, expressed his concerns, stating that the surge in Chinese migrants could include agents from the Ministry of State Security or the Chinese military. “When I first saw the surge in Chinese migrants, that’s the thought that came to my mind,” Chang said, adding that these individuals could be here to commit acts of sabotage.
Progression of Events
The surge in illegal border crossings has been compounded by the Biden administration’s relaxed vetting procedures for Chinese nationals crossing the border illegally. The lack of thorough vetting, coupled with China’s lack of cooperation on deportation flights, poses a significant national security risk. Representative Mark Green, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, echoed these concerns, noting that many of the Chinese migrants are military-aged males with prior experience in the People’s Liberation Army.
The alarming increase in illegal crossings by Chinese nationals, particularly military-aged males, has highlighted a significant national security issue. The Biden administration’s lax border policies, coupled with China’s non-cooperation, exacerbate these concerns. As tensions with China remain high, particularly over Taiwan, the U.S. must address this growing issue to safeguard national security and ensure border integrity.
